About

Applied AI/ML in Healthcare
Now: Using AI/ML and real-world data (RWD) to address challenges and opportunities in healthcare, such as faster detection of rare and under-treated diseases.
Past: Neuroscientist investigating early brain development and novel brain cancer therapies. Tech Transfer fellow and non-profit engagement manager helping to bring novel medical technologies to market.
Healthcare AI & Real-World Data
I’m passionate about improving our healthcare system by developing innovative AI solutions that benefit patients. I have experience applying AI/ML to multiple clinical domains, including metabolic, auto-immune, neurological, respiratory, and under-diagnosed diseases. Areas of focus include:
- Machine learning for rare disease detection using longitudinal prescription and medical claims data
- Clinical data interoperability using SNOMED CT, ICD-9/10 and other clinical ontologies
- Real-world evidence generation for precision medicine and disease progression prediction
Featured work:
- Identifying and characterising asthma subgroups at high risk of severe exacerbations using machine learning and longitudinal real-world data, BMJ Health and Care Informatics, 2025
- Machine learning using longitudinal prescription and medical claims for the detection of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), BMJ Health and Care Informatics, 2022
Neuroscience Research
As a neuroscientist, I’m interested in how abnormal brain development might make us susceptible to neurological diseases and how we can use this knowledge to find promising new therapies. Areas of focus include:
- Early life experience and myelin development - investigated how early life experience affects myelin maturation in the developing brain and the important role of early life social and auditory experience in healthy brain function.
- Brain cancer biology - investigated strategies to target cancer stem cells to arrest the growth of primary brain tumors, including metabolic and epigenetics pathways prevalent in tumor cells.

Tech Commercialization
Bringing promising new technologies from lab to market is critical for real-world impact. My experience bridging this divide includes:
- Technology Transfer - As a fellow at the University of Michigan’s Tech Transfer Office, I assessed the clinical potential and commercial viability of new medical inventions, including diagnostic algorithms, medical devices, novel therapeutics (biologics/small molecules), and digital health solutions
- Strategic Consulting - Served as engagement manager for early-stage biotech companies and business growth accelerators, conducting healthcare market assessments, customer segmentation analysis, and competitive landscape evaluations
- Innovation Development - Technical co-author and co-inventor on patents for AI/ML applications in healthcare (one granted, one pending)
